Binding: dark mottled calf; edges of boards and turn-ins gilt tooled, now faded; spine rebacked preserving original gold-tooled backstrip including title & author; with ink label by a former owner on 2nd front free endpaper, dated 3.8.61, explaining that in this copy plant names referenced in Smith's Flora britannica have been annotated

"A catalogue of the Brittish names of plants, sent me by Master Robert Dauyes of Guissaney in Flint-Shire": p. [31]-[32] at end
Virtually a translation of Rembert Dodoens' Stirpium historiae pemptades sex (originally published in 1583) made by a member of the London College of Physicians, Robert Priest, who died before it was printed. The manuscript came into the hands of Gerard, who issued the work as his own. Cf. Hunt
